According to "Svoboda.org", Xi Jinping's visit came three days after the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin.
The leader of China, Xi Jinping, arrived in Russia on March 20th to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin a "peaceful plan" for ending the war in Ukraine.
Putin congratulated Xi Jinping on his re-election as head of China and stated that Russia is carefully studying Beijing's proposals for resolving the conflict with Ukraine. Russian authorities are also open to negotiations.
Xi Jinping, choosing Russia as the first country to visit after his re-election, noted that presidential elections will be held in Russia next year. He expressed confidence that the Russian people will support Putin in his endeavors.
According to Putin's press secretary, Xi Jinping did not state that Putin will participate in the 2024 presidential elections. The discussion was not about Putin's candidacy for president, but about the Chinese leader's evaluation of such prospects.
The informal negotiations between the leaders of Russia and China lasted almost 4.5 hours.
Official talks between the leaders will take place in narrow and expanded formats on Tuesday, March 21st. Xi Jinping's visit will last for three days and end on March 22nd.
